Perineural Injection Therapy

Perineural Injection Therapy (PIT) in a simple and very effective therapy, which treats the neurogenic pain and inflammation found in a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and pain conditions. Neurogenic pain is a type of pain that results from a nerve being chronically inflamed. PIT involves the injection of medical grade sugar (dextrose) just below the skin to promote the healing of injured nerves and restoration of function.

PIT is generally tolerated very well. The injections are done with very short and small needles that go right below the skin. Multiple injections are done along the course of the nerve and you may experience a small “stinging” sensation.

Most patients require 4-8 treatments, done consecutively once a week. Patients experience pain relief immediately during the first visit and the results can last anywhere between 4 hours to 4 days. Permanent pain relief usually requires a series of treatments over time.  In our experience, the success rate of the treatment is between 80-100%. Our goal is to get the patient to a pain free state.

Perineural Injection Therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Low Back Pain

  • Carpal Tunnel
